Catering Assistant

 The Role

The post holder will work with the Catering Supervisor to ensure that the kitchen runs effectively on a day-to-day basis, meeting all health and safety standards and operating as cost effectively as possible

Location: Bridge College, Openshaw

Hours: 25 Hours per week 

Working Weeks - 38 weeks per year - term time 

Salary: £13.905.15 - Pro-rated

Contract : Permanent

Responsibilities include but are not exhaustive;

  • Preparing and cooking meals under the direction of the catering supervisor or covering for supervisor/catering team during absences.
  • Associated cleaning activities to include the kitchen and refectory areas and including clean down duties
  • Receiving food orders, checking off and putting away.
  • Maintaining food and ordering system as required.
  • Ensuring proper storage and rotation of food items in line with best hygiene practice and students’ dietary needs
  • Responding to authorised hospitality requests.
  • Attend training as required by the College and the Together Trust, including essential training and refreshers – including occasional out of hours training.
  • Undertake professional training as required by the College and the Together Trust
  • Undertake some basic training in communication with and management of students’ needs – e.g. Makaton signing, eating and drinking (dysphagia)
  • Contribute to providing and serving healthy meals – with regard to portion size and content/combinations of food and drink. 

About You;

  • Food Hygiene Certificate or a willingness to work towards one.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Hygiene or equivalent or a willingness to work towards one
  • Ability to undertake the full range of tasks in a well-planned, organised way.
  • Experience of working as a Catering Assistant. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of working with others to promote and enhance the provision.
  • Catering skills.
  • The ability and resilience to work in a caring and consistent manner in an environment where young people may display challenging behaviour
